Speaking of Bingo

Dauber, early bird, flimsies, free space, game board? What are they?

Believe it or not, they are some of the words which are used in bingo - a very famous gambling game throughout the years.

Surely, if you are a stranger to the gambling game called bingo, you will have no idea what these terms mean. Do not be ashamed. Even some of the professional, more experienced, more seasoned gambling players also do not understand the meaning of these terms.

To end your clueless state, and to satisfy your curiosity, here are the meanings of those terms, explained and simplified.

Dauber - in bingo, gambling players must match their card's numbers with the numbers drawn by the caller. They will need to form a pattern out of those numbers. Since a bingo card consists of 24 numbers, it would be hard for the gambling player to memorize which of his numbers have already been called. That is why gambling players need markers, or daubers, to play bingo. With the use of ink, daubers make it easy for gambling players to see if they had won yet.

Early Bird - Before a bingo session begins, usually, the organizers offer pre-session special games to entertain their gambling players. In some cases, the first official game in a bingo session is also called the early bird.

Flimsies - usually, bingo cards are made of hard cards to be durable. But sometimes, if the organizers intend not to keep the bingo cards used for the session, then they make use of the flimsies. Instead of cards, the numbers are printed in slim paper, which will not last that long, as compared to the average bingo cards.

Free Space - This is the bonus slot in a bingo card. This is found in the middle part, under the letter N. So instead of having twenty five numbers (five each on a row, supposedly), the bingo card has 24, because the third row only has four.

Game Board - placed side by side with the bingo board, the game board tells the gambling players which pattern they need to form on their bingo cards. This is usually used in bigger bingo events, as to minimize confusion among the gambling players. Organizers naturally would not want to argue with a gambling player who has formed the wrong pattern. That is why, to be clear, they flash the pattern for all gambling players to see.
